Some highlights from Macha Mission history:

Two American women settled at Macha in 1906. They were H. Frances Davidson and Adda Engle. With help from local Africans and a faithful worker from Matopo, they established the mission in July 1906. They were joined by Myron Taylor in 1907, started a school in 1908, and built more permanent buildings in 1910.

The first school Macha school only included boys because it was thought girls did not need an education. The son of Chief Macha was among the first students. The photo below includes that young boy along with Ndhlanlambi Moyo and Gomo Sibanda, both of whom came from Matopo with Davidson and Engle. Also in the group are several boys who eventually became important leaders in the Brethren in Christ Church:  Apuleni Moono (educator), Jesse Chikaile (deacon), and Mafuta (evangelist).
